Biography

Hurimoana Dennis is the Chairperson of Te Puea Memorial Marae, and leader of the Māori marae-based emergency housing initiative, that voluntarily cared for 181 homeless people including families in 2016. He is a member of the tribal groups of Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungungu and Rongowhaakata, and has been the chairperson of Te Puea since 2010. Mr Dennis brings a wealth of experience to his leadership at the marae. He has worked in law enforcement for 30 years, specializing in reducing Maori participation in crime as victims and/or offenders.
